We received a phone call from a customer who had our sticker on their hot water system. The customer told our bookings staff that they are unsure of how long the unit had been there for or the age of the unit. The customer said was that there was an abnormal amount of water pooling around the bottom of the unit. She was unsure if it was from the recent weather as we were just going into winter, and had been having a lot of wet weather.
As our plumber was only a few suburbs away he was able to be there within the hour. On the plumber’s arrival, he saw how very nice and sunny it was at home. You would have never believed the storms that had swept the area on the day before.
The system in question was a Vulcan Hotshot 135L gas storage boiler model number 6075, made in 1992. As our plumbers repair and replace all types of Vulcan hot water systems every single day, making our plumbers highly experienced as fully qualified gas fitters. This system, in particular, was 24 years old, which is a great lifespan for storage units and most units only last 10-12 years while instantaneous systems have an expectancy of 14-16 years.
Due to this boilers age, it was showing signs of needing replacement due to the rust inside the storage tank. The storage tanks will do this over time and eventually, the rust will corrode enough and let water out to the on the outside of the unit. When this does happen, you will need a replacement unit, as we have done here. As the customer was unsure of the age of the unit, there were not anticipating this expense. As the customer met our approval terms for our interest free payment plan, this way there were able to have the unit supply and installed that very same day.
As the customer wanted to stay with a storage system so he chose a Rheem 135L 4 star gas storage unit. Recently Vulcan was bought by Rheem, making the best of both worlds of experience and technology to deliver excellent hot water to millions of Australian country-wide. Just as the existing hotshot boiler the Rheem 135L is connected to mains pressure, meaning you have the same pressure every single time you use the shower. The 135L comes with a 5 year warranty on the storage tank and 1 year warranty on all other parts and labour with domestic installations.
