Gas Storage Hot Water
One of our customers had this Therman 135 litre gas storage system installed in 2015 as a brand new unit. At the time this was the latest Australian made product sold by Therman and was a very popular choice amongt households as it had a strong 5.3KW heat output and boasted an equally reasonable 4.5 star energy rating.

Shortly after being installed the customer noticed a decline in performance and hot water temperature. So a call was made to Jim’s Plumbing for a solution. The customer noticed that Jim’s had installed the system and since had left a sticker on the system if any problems arose in the future.
Within an hour, a fully qualified plumber was dispatched and had arrived at the customer’s doorstep. The plumber began to investigate the possible cause of the sudden temperature drop and was able to quickly determine that a faulty thermocouple and universal control was to blame.
The problem was explained to the customer in detail and was discovered that both parts commonly tend to fail at the same time as one protects the other in the event of a flame being snuffed out by wind or excess water deluge. In this instance wind was the main contributor to the problem, it had been established that the wind was constantly blowing out the pilot light due to the unit being positioned in a location highly susceptible to wind movement, which had put excess strain on the thermocouple. This part had since worn out because of this and required replacing.
Fortunately, these parts are readily accessible due to being common universal parts, so sourcing them was not a problem. Jim’s Plumbers carry a wide range of common parts on board the plumbing vans to save time wasted in travelling to suppliers to source parts.
The new thermocouple and control units were fitted to the Therman hot water service, and gas flow was restored as normal. The unit instantly sprung back into life and a short while later, was once again producing hot water as per normal.
The customer had the option to pay via cash, cheque or credit card, as the plumbers carry onboard mobile EFTPOS terminals for convenience, and was also taken through the warranty period on any parts we supply also our workmanship.
The customer was happy with the end result of the job and was impressed with the plumber’s extensive knowledge of what the common problems are with hot water systems, meaning diagnosis was quick and easy saving the customer hundreds in replacement and excessive repair costs.
