Today we attend to this Solahart 300L solar hot water system this specific model has the tank on the roof with 2 solar panels there are other versions where the tank is positioned on the ground and the panels are on the roof, this is known as a split system. When we have the tank and the panels on the roof we refer to this as a highline model.
That morning we had received a phone call from our customer saying that he noticed some water coming through the roof. As the customer had used us previously for the installation of his new gas cooktop recently he knew our plumbers are not only licensed plumbers with over 5 years’ experience but are qualified and licenced as gas fitters.
Pictures shown here has an electric booster meaning that when there is not enough sunlight to heat the solar panels there is an element inside the tank that will heat the water so the customer always has hot water even on the cloudiest of days.
The repair we had to carry out on this Solahart unit was a leak on the pipework connecting the tank to the panels, this was easily fixed fortunately for the customer they didn’t have to replace the complete unit as it was a simple repair. Solahart is now owned by Rheem who also now have the Edwards brand on hot water units.
The problem with Solahart range, in our opinion, is should you need a Solahart unit installed or replaced you have to use one of the Solahart distributers which limits you in your options in what plumbing contractor you can use, however comparison solar units on the market which plumbing coming such as ourselves have access to, making it far easier to be able to install the same day. We are repairing Solahart units on a daily basis as we are able to source the parts easily, however, if one does burst and is in need of replacement we would normally give the customer the option of another brand which can have more advantages and even sometimes a cheaper price.
It is our option with the Solarhart units with the tank on the roof that you not only have an eyesore from the road you roof is carrying excessive with of a tank full of water and often maintenance can be overlooked such as leaks due to the unit being located on the roof.
