Repair Leaking Rheem Quick Recovery 170L Gas Outdoor Water Heater
This morning a brand new customer called Jim’s Plumbing 1300 068 480 after seeing a few of our vans on the road travelling between jobs. They explained to our call centre operator that there was no hot water coming through any taps or shower in their house, and they were expecting new tenants moving in the day after! They needed a plumber urgently. We arranged for one of our expert plumbers to attend within the hour* in our fully stocked vans.
Upon inspection of this hot water system, we found that there was air in the gas lines leading to the hot water system. This was an easy fix for the customer. Our plumber relit the pilot light several times to force the air out of the gas lines. To ensure everything was running efficiently our Jim’s Plumbing plumber tested the unit and outlets in the house to ensure hot water was flowing correctly.
Upon further inspection we found that the pressure relief valve was leaking on the gas hot water system which is caused when water is not used for a long period of time. Our plumber attempted to reset this valve but eventually found it was a better option to replace this valve – which we had already stocked on our van, meaning we did not have to source this elsewhere from a supplier.
The pressure relief valve sets the water to a certain pressure, which protects any outlets to be subject to a pressure that exceeds their design limit. This means it will protect anything else to burst or leak in the future. This unit is suited for a family of 4-5 and has a capacity of 170 litres, and is also available in 90 litres and 135 litres depending on your hot water needs. The unit is backed up with a 7 year warranty on the cylinder, 3 year warranty on the labour of the cylinder and a 1 year warranty on parts and labour of all other components of the hot water unit.
As the customer had to leave the site in the middle of the job being completed, we were able to process their credit card details over the phone and explained throughout the job what was required. The customer also asked that we attend their own house for a drain job which we were able to organise quickly and in a time frame that suited them.
