Today we attended to a Marathon hot water system. Early this morning we received a phone call from a customer who had noticed our number on a sticker that has been placed on the unit. She said the system was starting to make noise like it was trying to heat the water but when when she waited before turning on the tap, no hot water would come out of the taps.

The customer told our booking staff that she doesn’t know much about the unit’s history as she had recently purchased the property as an investment. As the plumber was only a few suburbs away, the plumber was able to be there within the hour.
As the plumber arrived, the customer couldn’t believe how quickly the plumber was able to get to the house and how well he was presentable he was in his uniform. As the plumber was shown to the Marathon hot water system he noticed the puddle to the left of the unit, due to the recent storms, the customer assumed that the puddle shown in the above pictures, was just left over from those storm. Upon further inspection inside the unit, the plumber determined that this system had a number of things to be wrong or faulty. The plumber had to deliver the disappointing news to the customer that it will be more cost effective to replace rather than repair the unit. As the customer was not aware that this would happen so soon after purchasing the house, so was worried how she would be able to pay for the new system.
Luckily we have interest free terms available for such an event. As the customer met all the requirements, she was approved in minutes. Once approved the customer was able to have the unit sourced then installed with 4 hours. The new unit that was chosen was a Vulcan freeloader 135L storage system. As this has the same 135 litre capacity as the previous marathon system making it was a quick and easy process to install. Both the freeloader and the marathon units are both made by Vulcan, who are which now owned by Rheem.
There are many advantages to the freeloader system, it has a 4.9 star energy rating and can supply up to 3-4 people in 2-3 bathrooms. The storage cylinder itself is made from high strength steel, making it able to handle varying water temperatures and water heating cycles. Also with the outer casing made from durable steel, it is easy to live with and appealing to the eye. If you are wanting to free a bit more space in your yard or side passage, you can have the freeloader unit recessed into the wall space using an approved base.
