Leaking Rheem 160 Litre Storage Hot Water System
Last Wednesday Jim’s Plumbing was called out to assess a Rheem 160 litre storage hot water system that had been leaking slowly over the past few weeks. The customer explained that they had noticed the cupboards around their hot water system had become damp and were concerned that there could be a possible leak coming from the heater itself.

Upon arrival our plumber found that the unit which was positioned tightly in a laundry cupboard had been leaking considerably and had unfortunately damaged the surrounding joinery. After closer assessment, our plumber found that the plumber who originally installed the unit had failed to place a safe tray underneath the unit which had resulted in significant water damage to the customer’s cupboards.
Unfortunately as the old Rheem unit was beyond repair and so Jim’s plumbing provided an onsite quotation to supply and install a new hot water system.

As the hot water unit was located in a small townhouse our plumber recommended replacing the unit with a new 160L Rheem 191160R7 hot water service, as there was no other space apart from the laundry cupboards to install a new water heater. Below is an image of the compliance plate of our customer’s newly installed Rheem hot water service.
Our plumber quickly checked the dimensions of the new Rheem 160 litre unit to ensure it would fit within the customer’s tight laundry space before removing covering and removing the unit to avoid water leakage over the customer’s carpet.
