Leaking Aquamax Gas Storage Hot Water Unit

Your Local Hot Water Expert

As they used other areas of the Jim’s group, a customer called Jim’s Plumbing today as they had a found water was leaking from the top of their gas hot water system. They also needed us to check a blocked toilet. Our friendly call centre operator arranged for the plumber to attend bright and early the following day as per our new customer’s request.

Upon arrival we checked the toilet first, finding it to be a relatively simple and shallow blockage, we were able to rod the toilet fully and clear the blockage. We then moved on to the hot water system and found an Aquamax gas storage hot water system installed. Our plumber checked all the outlets that may have been leaking, including the cold water inlet pipe and the hot water outlet pipes, including all connections to ensure they were not loose.

After our inspection, we found that the temperature and pressure relief valve (PTR Valve) was faulty and leaking from the seal. This acts as a safety valve to release excessive pressure in the pipes in case the thermostat fails. As this valve was leaking we recommended replacing the part completely to avoid any further issues with it in the near future. After explaining this to the customer they were more than happy to let our plumber complete this work straight away.

We were able to install a brand new valve straight away with parts stocked in our plumber vans. This particular Aquamax gas storage hot water heater we worked on today was a 155 litre tank and gives a 390 litre hot water delivery in its first hour. It has a fantastic 5 star energy rating and a 10 year warranty on the cylinder itself. This tank is also made with stainless steel to prevent the tank from rusting like other older steel tanks. It can only be run with natural gas however there is also the option of a twin temperature delivery, and this means you can program different rooms in your house to different temperature settings.

For example, a higher temperature in kitchen and laundry and a lower setting in bathrooms to protect any scolding hot water coming from taps and showers, which is safer for kids. After we replaced the valve we gave our customer a full receipt onsite, for the hot water system fix and the clearing of the blocked toilet after the customer opted to pay with a credit card with our plumber. We also left our customers with our contact details if and when they need a plumber again.
