A customer had a Chromagen solar hot water system that was boosted by a gas powered instant hot water system. The customer had noticed that the system was not producing water that was hot enough, even when the sun was shining down to the solar panels on the roof. The original solar hot water system was only 3 years old and had been working fine until recently. The customer called Jim’s Plumbing immediately as they had recently been out in the past for a blocked drain and a burst pipe.
A plumber was soon dispatched to the customer to see if anything can be done to fix the low temperature problem experienced. The attending plumber identified the Chromagen solar system and adjoining gas booster service, then began running diagnostics on the system in an attempt to find fault with any electronic components therein.
The solar panels, circulation pump and storage tank were found completely faultless and in good working order but soon, it was discovered that a heat exchanger in the gas boosted instantaneous system was the cause of the problem, is that it was not boosting the temperature of the water when sunshine was low.
The course of action, on the strong recommendations of the fully qualified plumber, was to replace the booster unit to an upgraded Chromagen Eternity T20 instantaneous system to aid with water heating. A comprehensive quote was given to the customer on site, which was happily accepted.
This system was a large upgrade as the T20 had a higher flow rate (20Lp/m) and had a 6 star energy rating to go with it! As an added bonus, the T20 system is designed to work in harmony with solar systems as a booster as well as a standalone household heater.
The unit was fitted and configured to operate with the solar system, saving the customer a long process and potentially costly and unnecessary exercise of replacing the entire solar system.
Within the morning, the customer had a brand new current model hot water booster system and the initial problem was solved. The customer was issued a certificate of compliance for all gas works done on site, and also received a digital copy of the report sent via email from the office.
