Dux Prodigy 4 Gas Storage Repaired
Yesterday our call centre was contacted by a distressed customer who was experiencing issues with her Dux Prodigy 4 135L gas unit. The customer was on the brink of tears as she reported that the water was coming out of the taps freezing cold. She and her housemates had attempted to relight the hot water heater, but the pilot light just wouldn’t stay on.
We reassured her and arranged for a Jim’s service technician to attend immediately to diagnose the problem. Our plumber was able to rapidly ascertain that the culprit behind the customer’s debacle was the unitrol, which is the thermostat/main control assembly for the gas. Fortunately, this was a stocked item in our Jim’s Plumbing vans and the plumber quickly and efficiently replaced this.
Tested the unit and left the heater while it was in the heating cycle, reassuring the customer that as soon as the system heated up, hot water to the property would be restored. Within about 45 minutes of heating the water, the customer contacted our call centre again. This time we were pleased to hear that she was ecstatic! She was back to being able to use their hot water again and had just had a pleasant hot shower using the hot water from her repaired Dux Prodigy 4 system!
Due to the rapid turn around and the fact that our plumber was able to repair the unit on the spot, it meant that our customer was able to get back to her daily routine immediately. She was so relieved that the problem had been resolved so promptly and effectively.
The Dux Prodigy 4 unit has a one year parts and labour warranty from Dux the manufacturer, however as the unit was three years old this warranty had expired. However, should a problem occur with the flue or tank of this system this is covered under a 7 year warranty! It also has a four and a half star energy rating, which was compatible with the customer’s efficiency requirements. It is also an aesthetically pleasing unit, able to be installed out of the way against a wall as depicted above.
The Dux Prodigy 4 unit is frequently the unit of choice for many of our customers upgrading from their existing 3 star gas units. This is because the Dux Prodigy 4 system has the same base footprint as the existing 3 star gas storage model, meaning it is an easy and aesthetic swap over.
The tank itself is about 1600 mm high and due to the size of the unit, the customer was enquiring that should the hot water unit need replacement in the future, what would be involved with changing it to a continuous flow hot water heater?
As there was sufficient gas supply, we gave a price so that the customer would have some ball park figure of the costing when replacement may be necessary.
